When I am normally using the internet through a network connection, the pop-ups are showing the host names associated with the outgoing (or incoming) connections. After I connect to an L2TP/IPSEC VPN, the pop-ups start showing only IP addresses. This causes previous connections that I have allowed for hostnames to pop-up asking to confirm if I want to allow the connection to the IP address/port combination.

Little Snitch 4.5 for Mac Review Little Snitch 4.5 for macOS is a popular program designed to help you protect your privacy and defend against various forms of network surveillance. It is considered one of the best tools for tracking network traffic. Jun 18, 2015. Use Little Snitch. Any malicious application that uses these techniques will have to send your stolen data somewhere. Little Snitch will show you that outgoing connection attempt and if it’s something you don’t recognize or find suspicious, block it. The app 'Little Snitch' fixed it by allowing me to disable any connection to Amazon by nsurlsessiond, while those related to iCloud are still enabled. I think there might be free (shareware) software out there that can accomplish the same thing. Little Snitch is kind of expensive for low-income Me. I've been experiencing issues where my entire WindowServer starts to spike, slowing my computer down considerably after opening and using a large PDF in Preview for a while. After I logout and login, it's all fast again (This is with little snitch network monitor running in the menu bar as well). – film42 Dec 19 '14 at 5:00.

I don't know if I have something misconfigured or not. Let me know what other information I need to provide to troubleshoot this issue.I have been having the same problem. I talked to my ISP about how crappy the connection has been lately, and they have some (relatively new) software that was able to tell them that some process in my house was using up all of the available upload bandwidth (and then some) to upload to an Amazon site. I used Activity Monitor to see what was going on on the network, found the ns process was way out of line compared to every other process, and proceeded with research. I wrote about this in a reply to a user on another thread: Nsurlsessiond spiking my internet quota.
nsurlsessiond does do something with iCloud as well as Amazon, but it was Amazon that was the problem. Clearly there's some kind of an issue here that either Apple or Amazon or both have to fix. I think it's time to write to Amazon, at the least.
